Nature Center Maintenance
About The Position
The Nature Center Maintenance position supervises the facility and performs building and grounds maintenance, including room set-ups for rentals. The role helps maintain the facility’s appearance and operations and promotes visitor safety. The employee is expected to follow the policies and procedures of Emily Oaks Nature Center and the Skokie Park District. This is a part-time position at Emily Oaks Nature Center in Skokie, Illinois, with hours ranging from 10 to 25 per week depending on availability. Evening and/or weekend hours are included. The position is classified as paygrade PT5, with a target hiring range of $16.60–$18.00 per hour depending on qualifications.
Requirements
- Be a responsible and self-motivated adult with a high level of initiative and attention to detail.
- Be physically capable of moving tables and chairs and loaded wheelbarrows.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience with custodial and general maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the building and grounds, secure the facility at closing, and interact with nature center patrons.
- Clean rental and program rooms, restrooms, and public-use areas.
- Perform building maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and cleaning windows.
- Set up and take down rooms for classes and rentals.
- Perform outdoor maintenance, including trimming trails, hauling woodchips, stocking firewood sheds, shoveling snow, and picking up litter.
- Set up for and supervise campfire shelter rentals.
- Assist with special events as scheduled and support other programming as needed.
