About The Position

Performs naturalist work in County parks and natural resource areas. The work involves carrying out educational programs for school classes. The work requires experience conducting environmental education programs for school classes. Workers report to a technical supervisor. Essential Job Functions Prepares educational programs for presentation to school classes: researches subjects, ascertains learning objectives and develops activities and materials for the program. Organizes materials, volunteers and materials and conducts programs; cleans up and reorganizes materials upon completion, and evaluates program effectiveness. Other Duties Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.) Knowledge of-- Principles and practices of the biological sciences as applied to the programs of the County parks and natural resources areas. Ability to-- Develop and present educational programs. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Deal effectively with school children, teachers and adult chaperones. Deal effectively with the public.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent. College coursework preferred.
  • Six months of recent experience conducting environmental education programs for school classes.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Subject to background investigation.
  • Operation of County owned vehicle.
  • Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking indoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping stretching or reaching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds.
  • Knowledge of-- Principles and practices of the biological sciences as applied to the programs of the County parks and natural resources areas.
  • Ability to-- Develop and present educational programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
