About The Position

This summer internship runs from May through August and is based in Madison, South Dakota. The intern develops, promotes, and presents programs about natural and cultural resources and environmental education. Duties may include staffing visitor centers, selling publications, developing and presenting daytime and evening programs, coordinating special events with volunteers and employees, and presenting living history demonstrations. Weekend work is required. Housing is available. Applicants must be current part-time or full-time students taking at least six credit hours in the upcoming or immediately preceding semester. Applicants must be enrolled at a college, university, or technical institute when applying and should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program by the internship start. All students are encouraged to apply; preference may be given to juniors or seniors, South Dakota residents, and students attending South Dakota institutions. Positions may be filled before the closing date.

Requirements

Must be a current part-time or full-time student taking at least six credit hours in the upcoming or immediately preceding semester.
Must be enrolled at a college, university, or technical institute when applying.
Should have completed one year (nine months) of the chosen program by the start of the internship.
Must be available to work weekends.

Nice To Haves

Experience and interest in teaching, public speaking, and working with children and adults are desirable.
Preference may be given to applicants with junior or senior standing, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
