Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
  • One year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science.
  • A valid driver’s license with no more than five points is required to operate a State vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with NPDES municipal separate storm sewer system permits
  • Background in the implementation of best practices for stormwater management and soil erosion and sediment control
  • Ability to evaluate plans and write reports
  • Experience working with databases and GIS mapping

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate local erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and federal stormwater permitting programs by applying principles of natural resources, hydrology, and climate change science.
  • Maintain up-to-date scientific knowledge to inform and develop permit language.
  • Travel throughout Maryland to inspect urban pollution control practices, assess the local implementation of state laws and regulations, evaluate local codes and enforcement policies, and observe programmatic procedures in practice.
  • Analyze collected data and field observations to evaluate local program effectiveness.
  • Develop reports and recommendations regarding program delegation and enforcement to help improve the quality of local compliance efforts and protect Maryland's streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Build strong relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders, respond to technical inquiries, and act as a statewide resource to promote consistency across local programs.
  • Effectively communicate policies regarding climate change and environmental justice.
