About The Position

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is seeking a Natural Resources Planner II to join the Wastewater Pollution Prevention and Reclamation Program, Municipal Discharge Permit Division. This role is crucial for accelerating the drafting and issuance of environmental permit decisions that support local municipalities in meeting Chesapeake Bay nutrient reduction requirements. The position involves preparing correspondence for public comments on technical or policy matters during the public participation process. This is a field position requiring travel throughout Maryland's surrounding counties.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental science or natural resources planning, management or development.
  • One year of experience in natural resources planning or applied environmental science.
  • A valid driver’s license with no more than five points is required to operate a State vehicle.
  • If you hold an out-of-state license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geology, Geography, Natural Resources Management & Planning, Biological Science, Chemical Science.
  • Working knowledge and experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks requiring skills to accelerate the drafting and issuance of environmental permit decisions.
  • Support local municipalities in meeting Chesapeake Bay nutrient reduction requirements within their NPDES permits, including nutrient trading.
  • Prepare correspondence to address public comments on complex technical or policy requirements during the public participation process.
  • Conduct field surveys and site visits.
  • Travel to various sites throughout Maryland's surrounding counties.
  • Drive a State vehicle.
