About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to develop and implement policies, plans and programs to effectively acquire, manage, preserve and protect the natural resources within DeKalb County's parks system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Resource Management, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or related field required
  • five years of experience in resource management, landscape design, horticulture or related field, to include lead or supervisory experience
  • any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; addresses employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; manages work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures subordinates have proper resources to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with revisions to procedure manuals as appropriate.
  • Establishes and implements standards, policies, and management plans to protect and enhance natural resources.
  • Implements pollution protection; estimates and implements pollution protection; and enhances natural resources.
  • Manages annual operating budgets for the Natural Resource Management Section; assists with preparation of budget; identifies and tracks costs to preserve and maintain natural resources using an activity-based costing system; and prepares and administers grants to support Natural Resource Management Section.
  • Establishes and cultivates partnerships; and establishes and cultivates partnerships with other departments, jurisdictions, nonprofit and citizen groups to promote stewardship of natural resources.
