About The Position

The Natural Resources Analyst provides technical analysis of permit applications for initial permit development, modification, or renewal. This role involves reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness, and coordinating with other staff on permitting compliance monitoring, inspection, and enforcement responsibilities related to the Underground Injection Control Program and Groundwater Pollution Control Program. The position is located in Lander, WY or Sheridan, WY, offering a balance of work and outdoor activities, with state tax advantages and a welcoming community.

Requirements

• Solid understanding of core environmental principles, theories, and practices, with a working familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory frameworks.
• Proven ability to draft, review, and edit technical documents, reports, and correspondence with high attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness.
• Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills, with a professional approach to interacting with team members, regulated entities, and the public.
• Skilled in researching public records, tracking complex regulatory data, and maintaining organized, audit-ready physical and digital files.
• Capability to interpret routine policies and procedures to answer technical inquiries and provide clear data to colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and support team scheduling and workflow logistics efficiently.
• Proficient in standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data entry, spreadsheet management, and presentation drafting.
• Collaborative team player comfortable taking direction from senior staff, supporting multidisciplinary projects, and adapting to changing project priorities.
• Bachelor's degree (typically in The Sciences).
• 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resources Specialist OR 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resources Specialist.
• Ability to travel and conduct field investigations and inspections, which may require prolonged standing, walking on uneven terrain, and lifting equipment up to 25 pounds.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel locally and regionally, including overnight stays, to perform site inspections and attend public meetings.

Responsibilities

• Assist with and conduct on-site facility inspections, audits, and field investigations to monitor environmental compliance, document field conditions, and help resolve groundwater complaints or violations.
• Review permit applications, technical proposals, and environmental plans to verify alignment with applicable groundwater quality rules, regulations, and standards.
• Gather, organize, and evaluate chemical, geological, and hydrogeological data; verify the accuracy of sampling methods and calculations in technical reports.
• Draft clear compliance reports, meeting notes, routine correspondence, and technical summaries based on field findings and data reviews.
• Provide basic technical assistance to industry representatives and the public regarding permit application steps and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Coordinate site logistics and work closely alongside geologists, senior staff, and external partners to complete specialized field assignments and sampling events.
• Maintain organized, audit-ready physical and digital project files while managing daily schedules and task priorities effectively.
