About The Position

Magnolia River Services, Inc. is seeking Natural Gas Inspectors to work in the Fayetteville, NC area. This role involves inspecting the proper construction of natural gas distribution systems. It is a full-time, year-round position with excellent benefits at a growing company. Magnolia River, founded in 2000 and headquartered in Decatur, Alabama, is an engineering, inspection, GIS, software, and consulting company serving the utilities, oil and gas, water, and pipeline infrastructure industries.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read and understand construction prints.
  • Must have the ability to sketch construction drawings and/or to use software for construction diagrams (as-builts).
  • Required to maintain accurate project records and documentation during construction.
  • Must adhere to safety standards and take a proactive role in reducing safety risk.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to rapidly establish credibility and relationships with a broad range of individuals.
  • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of experience in the natural gas industry is required (more experience may be required by specific clients).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and able to operate a car or truck.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with visual inspection of both steel pipe welds and polyethylene pipe fusions, reading construction prints, and completing as-built drawings is preferred.
  • Hands-on construction experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the job, construction route, and be familiar with the traffic flow prior to project start.
  • Walk door to door, meeting with all residential customers to address concerns before construction, take pictures, make detailed notes, and point out any existing damage to avoid future problems. Upload all documentation into FieldLogIQ.
  • Meet with contractor to review job and discuss concerns. Obtain crew list and confirm Operator Qualification (OQ) prior to work commencement.
  • Document the progress of each project daily in FieldLogIQ, adhering to user expectations. Client-specific systems and forms may be required.
  • Make field recommendations on line placement for unknown conflicts, confirming changes in writing with the client representative.
  • Verify tie-in points are acceptable by ensuring the line being tapped meets minimum wall thickness, observing and documenting measurements.
  • Understand and implement Best Management Practices, including proper placement of silt fencing and hay socks.
  • Visually inspect welds and fusions on all fittings and joints, verifying adherence to manufacturer and client procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate OQ skills.
  • Observe proper jeeping of pipelines and document voltage and results. Visually inspect coating of welds, repair anomalies, and document coating thickness.
  • Determine if services need to be installed at a particular customer location and coordinate tie-ins and service rebuilds.
  • Understand meter placement for relocates and move outs as outlined in client construction standards.
  • Help resolve landscaping and/or restoration issues in collaboration with the contractor, customer, and client.
  • Confirm accuracy of contractor documentation and/or invoices.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, including OQ lists, completion reports, as-built drawings, material lists, anode cards, pressure test charts, service data, and service field orders within the allotted time frame.
  • Understand city and county paving cut and backfill standards.
  • Verify paving and concrete repairs with the contractor.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and orally.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all incidents, near misses, accidents, or injuries.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Assist the Inspection Manager with the training of incoming inspectors.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve goals.
  • Extensive travel required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
