About The Position

Our Leak Search group is hiring a Natural Gas Leak Survey Specialist who will be responsible for conducting Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated leak surveys under PHMSA Pipeline Safety Regulations Part 192. The work that you do in this role will ensure the safety of life, property, and the environment through conducting safety inspections on gas mains and responding to reported gas leaks. Please note that the starting rate of pay for this position is set at $40.01/hour, followed by an increase to $42.01/hour after completion of the probationary period (typically 6 months).

Requirements

  • Previous or current experience working with or around natural gas mains and services is highly desired
  • Relevant and progressively responsible experience performing a variety of general labor functions in support of construction projects
  • Knowledge of underground utility systems and construction practices
  • Ability to complete and maintain Operator Qualifications (OQ)
  • Possession of a valid, non-restricted driver's license is required
  • This position also requires working in or near hazardous gaseous atmospheres
  • Your work is subject to all types of weather conditions
  • This position is designated as a first responder for emergencies; therefore, it is required that you reside in the Service Territory and receive at least one utility service (gas, electric, or water) from Colorado Springs Utilities

Responsibilities

  • Conducting leak surveys on gas facilities that fall under DOT requirements
  • Classifying, recording, and notifying proper response personnel concerning gas leaks
  • Accurately recording inspection information
  • Notifying proper response personnel of emergencies
  • Dealing with hazardous situations, which may include evacuations
  • Repairing minor leaks on gas meter sets
  • Centering gas leaks on gas mains and services
