About The Position

The Natural Gas Pipeline Laborer supports the layout, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas pipeline systems. Working under the supervision of a Foreman or Superintendent, this role includes a range of manual labor tasks, such as trench excavation, pipe placement, job site restoration, and traffic control. Pipeline Laborers are expected to work safely and productively in varying weather and field conditions and may travel frequently to different job sites.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in outdoor, utility, or construction labor roles preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass computer-based operator qualification (OQ) testing.
  • Current DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain upon employment.
  • CDL Class A or B preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Familiarity with gas pipeline installation techniques, trench safety practices, and traffic control.
  • Basic proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, teamwork mentality, and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of utility locating and safe digging practices preferred.
  • Frequent physical activity including standing, stooping, bending, crouching, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs frequently, and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of trenches and on/off equipment safely.
  • Maintain constant awareness of crew activity and job site conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the placement, alignment, and connection of gas pipelines, fittings, valves, and infrastructure.
  • Excavate and backfill trenches using hand tools and compact equipment under supervision.
  • Operate small construction equipment and haul materials and tools as needed.
  • Assist in the demolition and reconditioning of existing gas pipeline infrastructure.
  • Shovel, compact, and repair trench areas with asphalt, soil, or seed.
  • Support with pressure testing, flushing, and pipeline system checks as directed.
  • Set up and break down work zones, including barricades, traffic signs, and safety markers.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry guidelines.
  • Attend daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free job site.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and report unsafe conditions.
  • Take direction from Foremen, Superintendents, and Operators.
  • Coordinate tasks with team members to maintain crew productivity.
  • Notify supervisors of material shortages, obstacles, or equipment issues.
  • Perform incidental duties to support pipeline crews and other field teams.
  • Available for day or night shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • May be subject to working out of town for periods of time due to customer demand.
