About The Position

Gresham Smith is seeking a Natural Gas Engineer to join their team. This role involves performing distribution and transmission engineering for natural gas projects, including line routing, pipe and valve sizing, regulator stations, cathodic protection, railroad and stream crossings, plan and profile drawings, material selection, construction specifications, and all related calculations. The engineer will also prepare, provide guidance, or assist in developing engineering deliverables for natural gas distribution and transmission projects, and design utility relocation plans for highway construction projects, including those funded by State DOTs. The position requires maintaining frequent client contact and taking on supervisory responsibilities. The work directly contributes to shaping environments where people live, work, and thrive, within a supportive, people-first culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE), Mechanical Engineering (BSME), or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in natural gas utility design and coordination
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or the ability to become registered within 12 months, with willingness to obtain licenses in other states
  • Familiarity with DOT plans production and procedures
  • Computer-aided drafting experience
  • Practical experience with natural gas system design and/or construction
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Genuine curiosity, creativity, and a collaborative spirit

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in natural gas utility design and construction coordination related to DOT roadway projects
  • MicroStation and/or Open Roads Designer experience
