About The Position

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Natural Gas Engineer to support Natural Gas Distribution Service Operations projects in Nebraska and Iowa. The role involves performing independent engineering and design work, supporting project execution, and ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards. This position requires advanced technical knowledge and the ability to manage tasks with minimal supervision. Candidates must reside in the Greater Lincoln, NE or Council Bluffs, IA area or within reasonable commuting distance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline required
  • Proficiency in engineering design software, such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or Civil 3D
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Engineer I: 1–3 years of experience in engineering or a related technical field
  • Engineer II: 2–6 years of experience in engineering or a related technical field
  • Engineer III: 4–8 years of experience in engineering, with demonstrated success in technical leadership roles
  • Engineer III: Advanced proficiency in design software, such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or Civil 3D
  • Engineer III: Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • EIT (Engineer in Training) or FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification preferred
  • Familiarity with natural gas distribution systems or utility infrastructure
  • Knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory compliance for the natural gas industry
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling and pressure regulation equipment sizing
  • Engineer II: Familiarity with natural gas distribution systems, including pipelines and pressure regulation systems
  • Engineer II: Experience managing small to medium-sized design projects
  • Engineer II: Experience with hydraulic modeling and road conflict resolution for pipeline design
  • Engineer III: Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification preferred
  • Engineer III: Extensive knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, including pipelines, compressor stations, and pressure control systems
  • Engineer III: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and business enterprise software
  • Engineer III: Experience leading hydraulic modeling efforts and complex pipeline design projects

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydraulic modeling and analysis to support natural gas distribution system design and operations
  • Size and select pressure regulation equipment for natural gas distribution systems
  • Resolve road conflict issues related to pipeline design and installation
  • Perform general pipeline design in accordance with applicable industry and regulatory standards
  • Support natural gas distribution operations with engineering expertise
  • Collaborate with construction teams and provide field support during construction activities
  • Assist with project execution from design through construction completion
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
  • Communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
