About The Position

The purpose of this position is to perform intermediate professional and responsible work coordinating and participating in the design, maintenance, operation, and future planning of natural gas utility facilities; ensures compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations pertaining to a natural gas utility. Work is performed under the general direction of the Natural Gas Compliance Manager.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in natural gas utility operations, including compliance and design work.
  • Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.
  • Satisfactory completion of various training and certifications as required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) required.
  • Thorough knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 191–195 and applicable State natural gas pipeline safety regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State regulations in an operational utility environment.
  • Knowledge of natural gas distribution, operation and design principles.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain compliance documentation, audit responses, and regulatory reports.
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory and engineering information effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the subject matter expert for natural gas regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains, develops, and administers natural gas compliance programs and manuals.
  • Evaluates natural gas facilities.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
  • Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices.
  • Communicates with supervisors, other employees, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public as needed.
  • May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, or be called out as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
