About The Position

SEARHC is seeking a Nationally Certified Medical Assistant to support its Optometry Clinic in Juneau, Alaska. This position provides patient care and clinical support services for individuals of all ages while developing specialized skills as an Optometry Assistant. Responsibilities include patient screening, optical services, ocular imaging, administrative support, and maintaining high standards of patient care and documentation. This is a career ladder position designed to provide increasing levels of technical expertise and responsibility through ongoing training, certification, and demonstrated competency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • National Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, or equivalent)
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Flu Vaccination Required
  • Minimum one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience.
  • Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for traveler consideration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Meditech EMR is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Room and screen patients for providers.
  • Perform optical and point-of-care testing.
  • Accurately document patient information in a timely manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to clinic protocols.
  • Verify optical benefits and assist patients with frame selection.
  • Obtain measurements and process optical orders.
  • Collect payments and enter orders accurately.
  • Dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses in person or by mail.
  • Perform adjustments, repairs, warranty replacements, and order verification.
  • Acquire ocular imaging including: Retinal photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Visual field testing, Corneal topography.
  • Upload and document imaging results within the medical record for provider review.
  • Assist with patient scheduling, recalls, referrals, and diabetic patient tracking.
  • Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries.
  • Coordinate with providers, referral coordinators, and clinics to facilitate patient care.
  • Order and maintain medical and office supplies.
  • Assist with optical inventory management, including ordering, cleaning, returns, and display organization.
  • Support invoice approval and reconciliation processes.
