This role is for a Paralegal in MoFo's National Security group, based in Washington, D.C. The position involves developing practice-specific knowledge and skills to manage projects, determine appropriate courses of action, and maintain proficiency in relevant technology. The paralegal will complete assignments using well-defined procedures, manage general tasks independently, and develop research skills to identify, organize, and verify information. They will leverage resources for high-quality work products and efficiency, organize and manage assignments to meet competing deadlines, and maintain files and databases relevant to the practice group. The role also requires developing analytical skills for issue identification and decision-making, resolving issues of limited scope, and complying with administrative requirements for billable expectations, including daily time entries and weekly timecard submissions. Key responsibilities include drafting articles and thought leadership on national security issues such as economic sanctions, foreign direct investment, foreign influence, export controls, and cybersecurity. The paralegal will also assist with client matters related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), including filings and research, and assist with Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) matters, including filing and tracking license applications. A weekly news bulletin covering sanctions, export controls, critical technologies, cybersecurity, CFIUS, and the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) will be drafted and distributed. The role includes performing miscellaneous tasks and research projects as directed by attorneys, tracking and monitoring project progress with regular status reports, and assisting other practice areas with paralegal tasks as assigned.
