About The Position

The National Sales Manager is responsible for increasing revenue by focusing on sales initiatives to secure group bookings for the Midwest Market. In this role, the manager will execute sales strategies, nurture client relationships, and strive to maximize top-line revenue. The position involves overseeing the entire sales process for each group, from generating leads to negotiating contracts, in order to ensure a seamless and positive experience for clients through effective collaboration with the operations team. The ideal candidate will possess strong sales skills, encompassing prospecting, presentation, and negotiation abilities. Effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as the capacity for team building, are also essential for this role. To excel in this position, the individual must demonstrate a proven track record of establishing and maintaining robust relationships with key clients, such as corporate clients, event planners, and other stakeholders, to encourage repeat business and referrals. Additionally, impeccable presentation skills are crucial, as the National Sales Manager will conduct property tours for potential customers and entertain them during site inspections, sales trips, and program operations as appropriate.

Requirements

  • 4 Year College degree preferred in Hospitality or Business field.
  • 5-10 years sales experience in full service luxury properties.
  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft Suite programs.
  • Knowledge of travel industry, current market trends and economic factors.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times, demonstrating courtesy and respect to guests and co-workers.
  • Ability to travel both locally and out of town for purposes of sales calls, meetings and training.
  • Must be available for evenings and weekends for business reasons including attending business/social functions, entertaining clients and oversight of sales & catering client bookings and events.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English
  • Professional demeanor appropriate for a luxury environment

Nice To Haves

  • Marriott systems experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the overall market (e.g., competition, economic trends, seasonality, supply and demand, etc.) and implements appropriate selling techniques.
  • Effectively manages patterns, rates, dates and space commitments.
  • History of exceeding revenue production goals as demonstrated through proven track record of market development and strong closing ratios.
  • Actively participates in daily business reviews.
  • Active solicitation of accounts to generate direct sales, with emphasis on strategic penetration of key accounts in assigned territory and be able to travel outbound to such territories.
  • Promotes high visibility of hotel through active involvement in industry associations and trade shows.
  • Gains understanding of the property’s primary target customer and service expectations; serves the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, to offer better business solution both prior to, and during the program/event.
  • Successfully prepares and executes site inspections with emphasis on creativity and originality.
  • Provides accurate, complete and effective turnover information to Event Management.
  • Attends pre/post-convention meetings to understand group needs, obtain feedback on quality of product, service levels and overall satisfaction.
  • Proactively involved and visible with groups when they are onsite while being an active partner of the Event Management Team to ensure a seamless experience starting at sales phase through group’s departure.
  • Maintains and fosters impeccable relationships with local industry partners by demonstrating local market and community leadership.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
