Centene is seeking a National Medical Director to assist the Chief Medical Director in directing and coordinating medical management, quality improvement, and credentialing functions for the business unit. This role provides medical leadership for utilization management, cost containment, and medical quality improvement activities. The National Medical Director will perform medical review activities for utilization review, quality assurance, and complex medical services, ensuring timely and quality decision-making. They will also support performance improvement initiatives for capitated providers and assist in planning and establishing goals and policies to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of care and services for members. This position requires providing medical expertise in quality improvement and utilization management programs, assisting the Chief Medical Director with physician committees, and conducting regular rounds for high-risk patients. Collaboration with clinical teams, network providers, and appeals teams is essential for reviewing complex cases and medical necessity appeals. The role also involves participating in provider network development, assisting in physician education, identifying utilization review studies, and evaluating adverse trends. Additionally, the National Medical Director will identify clinical quality improvement studies, interface with providers to implement recommendations, review claims for medical necessity and payment, and develop alliances with the provider community. Representation of the business unit on medical philosophy and policies may be required, as well as participation in state committees. This is a remote position, but may require working weekends and holidays as needed.
