About The Position

The National Honor Society (NHS) Advisor is responsible for overseeing the NHS program at Indianola High School for the 26-27 school year. This role involves student recruitment, managing the selection process, guiding members, handling operational and financial duties, and ensuring adherence to professional and conduct standards.

Requirements

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above for eligible students (juniors and seniors).
  • Ability to manage student recruitment and the selection process.
  • Knowledge of NHS bylaws for membership management, removals, and appeals.
  • Understanding of fundraising protocols and financial handling procedures.
  • Ability to ensure qualified adult supervision at all times.
  • Knowledge of background check requirements for outside service providers.
  • Enforcement of the district's Good Conduct Rule.
  • Promotion of character and academic integrity.
  • Oversight of field trip logistics, including permission slips and transportation.
  • Adherence to the Smart Dress policy.
  • Daily checking of voicemail and email with timely responses.

Responsibilities

  • Identify eligible juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above for NHS membership.
  • Communicate with eligible students via email, hold informational meetings, and distribute applications.
  • Serve as a resource for students regarding application and society requirements.
  • Collect applications by the deadline and evaluate applicants based on leadership, service, and character.
  • Facilitate the faculty council's review of applications and final determination of student inductions.
  • Provide explanations to students not accepted into the society.
  • Manage student membership, removals, and appeals according to NHS bylaws.
  • Obtain necessary permissions for fundraising activities.
  • Ensure all funds raised are promptly turned into the office.
  • Maintain qualified adult supervision of students at all times during meetings and activities.
  • Ensure outside service providers working with students undergo background checks.
  • Enforce the district's Good Conduct Rule and ensure members adhere to it.
  • Promote exceptional character and academic integrity, addressing plagiarism immediately.
  • Ensure students have signed permission slips for field trips.
  • Oversee student transportation for events, ensuring use of school-district vehicles unless otherwise approved.
  • Act as a chaperone on activity trips.
  • Conduct yourself professionally and follow the Smart Dress policy.
  • Check voicemail and email daily, responding to inquiries by the end of the following business day.
