About The Position

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces, and much more across the country. Through the National Estuary Program (NEP) Watersheds Grant provided by the EPA and administered by Restore America’s Estuaries, Houston Parks Board will restore/create 8 new wetland sites in the City of Houston. The participant will assist in the planning, preparing, and implementing of 2 of these wetland sites.

Requirements

  • Personal vehicle is required
  • Personal computer and cell phone is required
  • High school diploma is required
  • Ability to work outside for multiple hours a day in various weather conditions
  • Personal vehicle is required for personal transportation

Nice To Haves

  • College degree is preferred
  • Pursuing/has college degree in environmental related field is preferred (ex: Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management)
  • Personal clothing that is appropriate for physical work outdoors in all weather (long sleeve and long pants, hiking boots, wetland or rubber boots)

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in contractor inquiries and monitoring contractor work
  • Volunteer event preparation and participation
  • Participation in wetland webinar
  • Transporting and planting wetland plants on site
  • Assist in site monitoring and documentation
  • Growing out wetland plants at the nursery
  • Learning more about wetland habitats
  • Creating content for volunteer education and recruitment

Benefits

  • $20 per hour for 20-hour work week
  • $28 per week commuter allowance
