National Director of Sales

Sovereign Insurance GroupBerwyn, PA
8d$140,000 - $180,000Remote

About The Position

Sovereign Insurance Group is a niche-focused commercial insurance brokerage serving houses of worship, private and charter schools, nonprofits, middle market commercial risks, and real estate portfolios nationwide. We have grown by doing a few things unusually well: deeply knowing our niches, telling our clients’ risk stories clearly, and being the kind of partner people can count on. We are hiring a National Director of Sales to lead and scale our producer team across the country. This role is part player-coach, part operator. You will run the sales rhythm, manage producer performance, and help us scale what already works. You will report directly to the Managing Director, who owns overall sales strategy, key carrier relationships, and our National Practice Leaders. Your job is to make the plan run well every week.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive sales experience in commercial insurance, including:
  • Direct experience selling or leading sales in a P&C brokerage or carrier environment.
  • At least 3+ years managing insurance producers or sales reps with a clear record of improving results.
  • Proven track record of leading a team to measurable outcomes in new business, pipeline growth, and sales discipline.
  • Comfort with numbers and patterns. You do not need to be a data scientist, but you care about conversion rates, pipeline coverage, and unit economics, and you use them to guide decisions.
  • A coaching mindset. You are direct and honest, ask good questions, and care about helping people get better, not just hitting a number once.
  • Ability to balance strategy and execution. You can understand the broader plan and then drop into a deal review or tough conversation without losing the big picture.
  • Strong communication skills. Clear, concise, and credible with producers, leadership, clients, carrier partners, and peers such as National Practice Leaders.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for team meetings, producer support, and key client or carrier conversations.

Responsibilities

  • Owning the sales engine (execution)
  • Refine and run a simple, repeatable sales operating rhythm: pipeline reviews, forecast meetings, deal strategy huddles, and post-mortems.
  • Maintain a clear view of pipeline health, close rates, and producer productivity. Help the team focus on the right opportunities instead of chasing everything.
  • Leading and managing the producer team
  • Directly manage producers with clear expectations, consistent coaching, and real accountability.
  • Help producers sharpen their niche positioning, outbound strategies, and in-market execution.
  • Address performance issues early and constructively, and scale the habits and plays that work.
  • Sales strategy and market focus (in partnership with leadership)
  • Translate firm goals and sales strategy into practical plans by niche, geography, and producer.
  • Partner with the Managing Director on territory, vertical, and account themes that fit our underwriting relationships and capacity.
  • Help pressure test which opportunities we pursue and which we walk away from.
  • Coaching, development, and enablement
  • Make sure producers get the support, coaching, and training they need by coordinating internal training resources, outside partners, and peer-to-peer learning.
  • Work with team members on prospecting, qualification, deal strategy, and renewal defense.
  • Work closely with existing training roles and resources so playbooks and scripts match what really happens in the field.
  • Talent: hiring, onboarding, and retention of producers
  • Partner on recruiting and selection of new producers and related revenue roles.
  • Help design and run an effective onboarding path so new hires ramp quickly and know what “good” looks like at Sovereign.
  • Build a strong, healthy sales culture with high standards and low drama.
  • Cross-functional partnership
  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, and account management to make sure our growth plans are realistic and well-supported.
  • Partner closely with National Practice Leaders, who report to the Managing Director and serve as subject matter leaders with key carrier relationships, to align producer execution with our niche expertise and market strategy.
  • Provide structured feedback from the field to refine our carrier strategy, niche focus, and service model.

Benefits

  • Health insurance, vision, dental, life insurance, and short-term disability insurance. This includes an employer-sponsored HSA, paid coverage for employees, and cost-sharing for families.
  • 401K with employer matching.
  • PTO and paid holidays to support work-life balance. PTO is based on experience and is expected to increase over time.
  • Hybrid and remote work options available.
  • A casual office environment with a dedicated and professional team.
  • The opportunity to work in a unique role that is both challenging and fulfilling.
