About The Position

Magellan Aerospace, New York is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to join our team. The successful incumbent will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC milling programs to produce high-precision components, primarily for aerospace and defense applications. This role requires strong proficiency in CATIA V5, along with a solid understanding of milling processes, tooling, materials, and industry quality standards while working closely with cross-functional teams to streamline production, improve cycle times, and resolve machining issues to ensure consistent accuracy and efficiency. The salary range for this position is $32.00 to $38.00 per hour depending on experience.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree in CNC programming, machine tool technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in CNC programming, up-to 5-axis experience.
  • Proficient in CATIA V5 software
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and quality control standards.
  • Experience in creating and optimizing complex CNC programs for precision machining.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with G-code and M-codes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimize machining operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of precision and quality.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, machinery, and potential hazards, while adhering to all safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aerospace, defense, or medical industries is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Siemens 840D, Fanuc and Mazak controls
  • Turning or Mill-turn experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with any other CAD/CAM software is a plus.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support sister manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities

  • Create, read, and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models, ensuring clear communication of machining requirements.
  • Interpret and analyze technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining operations and sequences.
  • Create and optimize CNC programs using CATIA V5 CAM software to produce complex aerospace and defense components.
  • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job, ensuring machine capabilities align with part specifications.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling for each job and design/create custom fixtures when necessary
  • Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, machine setups, modifications, and test results.
  • Generate documentation to set up CNC machines, perform test runs, and make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specified quality and tolerance standards.
  • Work closely with engineers, machinists, and quality control teams to resolve technical issues and improve machining processes.
  • Oversee CNC operators, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards throughout the production process.
  • Conduct quality checks on finished products using precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with part specifications.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in CNC programming and machining technologies to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure all machining operations comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
