MySQL & PostgreSQL Database Administrator

SAIC•Washington, DC
•Onsite

About The Position

Lead enterprise PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments as they migrate to AWS. The role supports mission-critical enterprise applications and is responsible for database security, availability, reliability, scalability, architecture, capacity planning, high availability, disaster recovery, and operational automation across on-premises and AWS environments. The administrator works independently and collaborates with application, infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to improve database reliability and streamline deployments. The role requires effective prioritization and multitasking in a fast-paced, high-urgency environment, including managing concurrent production incidents and working under tight deadlines. This is a full-time, on-site position at DOT Headquarters in Washington, DC. It requires in-person support several days per week and availability for either an early shift starting at 7:00 AM or a late shift ending at 7:00 PM, as needed. The administrator may participate in on-call rotations and must perform maintenance during scheduled maintenance windows. The candidate must have strong hands-on expertise in MySQL Cluster and PostgreSQL administration across hybrid environments, along with experience planning and executing cloud migrations. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or green card holders who have resided in the U.S. for at least three years and be able to obtain a public trust.

  • Strong expertise in MySQL Cluster administration; the posting specifies this is non-negotiable.
  • Strong PostgreSQL and MySQL administration skills across on-premises and AWS cloud environments.
  • In-depth hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL installation, configuration, optimization, clustering, replication, backup and recovery, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Experience managing database environments across VMware, AWS EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Experience with MySQL Cluster, replication technologies, failover configurations, and high-availability database architectures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot database performance issues, analyze execution plans, optimize SQL queries, and implement performance-tuning strategies.
  • Experience implementing database security, including encryption, IAM integration, SSL/TLS, and secure access controls.
  • Hands-on experience migrating PostgreSQL and MySQL clusters to AWS, including assessments, planning, and technical recommendations.
  • Experience with backup and recovery tools, monitoring solutions, automation scripting, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Demonstrated success managing enterprise PostgreSQL and MySQL environments in hybrid on-premises and AWS infrastructures.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute cloud migration projects with hands-on AWS experience.
  • Ability to multitask, manage competing priorities and concurrent production incidents, and perform under pressure in a high-urgency environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure production environments.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and perform maintenance during scheduled maintenance windows.
