About The Position

The Mutuels Clerk is responsible for selling wagers on live and simulcast racing, handling large amounts of money, making change, cashing winning tickets, checking IDs, and maintaining an accurate cash balance. This role requires explaining wagering rules and company procedures in a friendly, ethical manner. Key functions include greeting patrons, communicating racing information, accurately processing wagers, accounting for all tickets, completing end-of-day cash and balance procedures, checking for counterfeit bills, verifying patron age, participating in scheduled meetings and training, and assisting other Mutuels tellers. The position demands a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness in managing departmental records, monies, and reports, and strict adherence to all company policies, pari-mutuels wagering rules, and Texas Racing Commission rules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or 2 year related experience and/or training; or combination 2 years of related experience and/or training.
  • New clerks will still complete required Mutuels and company-wide trainings.
  • 2 years accurate cash handling experience required.
  • Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Basic math and cash handling skills are highly important.
  • Excellent oral communication skills required, including problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to interact positively with employees and the general public.
  • Ability to enter racing details in terminal quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and be flexible with situations and assignments.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, work with interruptions, and work with detailed information/data.
  • Responsible Gaming Title 31 Training.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency if applicable to perform the essential job functions.
  • Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of horseracing and/or pari-mutuel wagering.
  • Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patrons and communicate racing information as requested in a friendly, professional manner, including race results, reading programs, wagering advice, issuance of vouchers for self-service machines and giving instruction on how to place a wager.
  • Quickly and accurately depress corresponding numbered key of terminal in accordance with patron’s wager instructions and provide patron with ejected wager ticket in a timely manner.
  • Accept money and make appropriate change.
  • Account for all cashed or cancelled tickets and forward to Mutuels Management and the Money Room for verification and reconciliation.
  • Handle large sums of cash and maintain an accurate cash balance, and follow departmental cash handling procedures daily.
  • Complete end-of-day cash and balance procedures.
  • Check for counterfeit bills in accordance with company procedure.
  • Check patron identification to determine minimum age requirement for wagering is met.
  • Participate in meetings, training and other company-related activities as scheduled.
  • Seek out the assistance of a supervisor/management to address questions and concerns.
  • Answer questions about wagering rules and policies when requested.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of facilities, as well as special events, in order to advise patrons of the same, whenever possible.
  • Assist other Mutuels tellers within the assigned area, as needed.
  • Log on and off terminal daily in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures in accordance with company standards.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including pari-mutuels wagering rules and Texas Racing Commission rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
