About The Position

Vacancy for a Middle School Musical Vocal Director for School Year 2026-2027. This role involves running vocal rehearsals after school and conducting student performers during live performances of the school musical. The director will collaborate with the production team on auditions, assess student vocal abilities for casting, and develop a rehearsal schedule. Key responsibilities include teaching show music, vocal health, projection, diction, and part-singing, while also ensuring students can perform movement and vocal tasks simultaneously. Collaboration with sound and technical crews for microphone plots and sound balance is also part of the role.

Requirements

• Strong background in vocal pedagogy, choral conducting, or musical theater direction
• Proficiency in keyboard accompaniment (rehearsal piano skills) to teach parts is highly preferred
• Excellent organization, patience, and ability to communicate effectively with middle school-aged students
• All required clearances, physical and TB test, and District requirements must be completed before employment

Responsibilities

• Run vocal rehearsals after school
• Conduct student performers during live performances of the school musical
• Collaborate with the Stage Director and production team to design and run the vocal audition process
• Assess students’ vocal ranges, capabilities, and pitch match to recommend casting for principal roles, supporting roles, and ensemble groups
• Develop and execute a comprehensive vocal rehearsal schedule in alignment with the master production calendar
• Teach show music, vocal health, projection, diction, and part-singing (solos, duets, and ensemble harmony) to middle school students of varying skill levels
• Conduct warm-ups and enforce healthy vocal habits during intensive rehearsals
• Sync vocal rehearsals with the Choreographer to ensure students can successfully execute movement while maintaining vocal quality
• Partner with the Sound and Technical Crew to establish proper microphone plots and sound balance for vocalists on stage
