This role involves planning, organizing, and directing medically prescribed music therapy activities to positively influence patients' psychological or behavioral status. The therapist will adapt or create assessment instruments, analyze treatment effectiveness, and review research. Key responsibilities include assessing client functioning levels, communicating findings, collaborating with treatment teams, designing music therapy experiences, improvising musically, establishing client goals, gathering diagnostic data, conducting information sharing sessions, documenting client progress, and planning music therapy sessions. The role also includes playing musical instruments, composing or adapting music, providing music therapy experiences for various client needs, selecting and adapting musical instruments and equipment, writing treatment plans, assessing treatment termination risks, potentially supervising students or interns, conducting research, and identifying/responding to emergency situations. Integration of behavioral, developmental, improvisational, medical, or neurological approaches into treatments is also expected.
