About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and student-centered Music Teacher (K–8) to join our team at the AMS Power Campus in Mesa for the 2026–2027 school year. The Music Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that develops students’ musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for music. The ideal candidate will create a structured and engaging classroom environment where scholars explore music through performance, theory, and collaboration. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through strong instructional practices, structured classroom environments, and data-informed teaching.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Music, Music Education, Education, or relevant content area) OR Valid Arizona teaching certification in a relevant subject area OR Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
  • SEI Endorsement or completion of 45 hours of SEI training is required to be considered for the role
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned music instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Arizona academic standards.
  • Teach foundational concepts in music theory, rhythm, vocal and/or instrumental performance, and music appreciation.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Incorporate performance-based learning opportunities such as concerts, showcases, or classroom performances.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Foster student confidence, creativity, and collaboration through music.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities (PLCs).
  • Collaborate with teachers and school leadership to support school-wide initiatives and events.
  • Contribute to school culture through music programs, performances, and community events.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning to strengthen instructional practices.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and performance opportunities.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and support family engagement through performances and events.
  • Encourage family participation in student showcases and music programs.
