About The Position

The Music Teacher will be responsible for planning curriculum and instruction, designing and administering assessments, providing feedback to students and families, and collaborating with colleagues to support student learning. This role also involves creating a safe and respectful learning environment, selecting appropriate instructional materials, and continuously seeking to improve teaching practices. The teacher will be responsible for monitoring student safety and performing other professional duties as assigned by the Principal.

Requirements

  • Hold valid Rhode Island teacher certification in Music.
  • Experience in the implementation of the RI Approved Curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with members of the special needs staff in a team approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, teachers, parents, and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Plans sequential units of study, individual lessons, and learning activities based on content standards.
  • Identifies appropriate teaching strategies and learning activities based on student needs and development.
  • Plans strategies for integrating students with disabilities into music education classrooms using IEP information.
  • Provides differentiated learning experiences to ensure student progress.
  • Designs units of instruction that meet district criteria.
  • Develops well-structured lessons with clear objectives and engaging strategies.
  • Designs and administers various assessments to measure student growth.
  • Analyzes assessment results to adjust teaching practices and implement interventions.
  • Provides regular, specific feedback to students and families on performance and improvement.
  • Encourages family participation in the classroom and school community.
  • Communicates with families about student performance and responds promptly to their communications.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to improve student learning.
  • Communicates and enforces standards for student work, effort, and behavior.
  • Uses routines to create and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Demonstrates respect for differences among students.
  • Reflects on teaching practice individually and with colleagues.
  • Selects and requests necessary books, supplies, and technologies.
  • Seeks and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors and colleagues.
  • Develops strategies with colleagues to enhance student learning and behavior.
  • Monitors student safety.
  • Performs other professional tasks as requested by the Principal.
