About The Position

The Music Teacher is responsible for the instruction of music content in a classroom setting within grade levels K-12. This is a 5-day position at Miles Elementary. The role involves designing and implementing appropriate music instruction, creating a positive educational climate, delivering relevant and rigorous music lessons, utilizing diverse teaching practices, observing and evaluating student performance, managing student behavior, communicating with parents and school/district personnel, providing for the health and safety of students, maintaining confidential records, and upholding certifications and professional development requirements. The position also requires demonstrating regular and predictable attendance, supporting the district's vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engaging in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintaining professional knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Music or eligibility for Florida Temporary Music Certificate is required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret all kinds of documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
  • Ability to write speeches and effectively present to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Ability to work with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.
  • Competent in required job skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements appropriate music instruction assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous music lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
