About The Position

Behind every great concert is a team making sure the right music is in the right hands at the right time. As a Music Librarian, you’ll play an important behind-the-scenes role supporting four Greensboro ensembles: the Greensboro Concert Band, Choral Society of Greensboro, Philharmonia of Greensboro, and Greensboro Big Band. You’ll help prepare music for rehearsals and concerts, maintain organized music collections, track materials, update spreadsheets and databases, and work alongside volunteers and music staff. Your attention to detail will help musicians spend less time looking for music and more time doing what they do best — creating memorable experiences for the community. This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable with spreadsheets, and excited to contribute to Greensboro’s vibrant arts and cultural community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Previous basic spreadsheet experience, preferably Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in a music-related field
  • Previous music library experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare music for performances: Copy music and prepare materials for each concert. Assign folders and place music in folders for individual ensembles. Distribute folders to ensemble members. Make additional copies as needed during rehearsals and concert preparation. Remove copies from folders and re-file music following each concert.
  • Support rehearsals and concert seasons: Attend evening rehearsals during the first two weeks of each concert season as needed. Distribute folders and make remaining copies during rehearsal periods. Help ensure music is organized and available for musicians.
  • Maintain the music collection: Assist with inventorying current music. Catalog new music. Maintain accurate music records. Track missing folders and loaned or borrowed music. Re-file music and maintain an organized collection.
  • Maintain records and spreadsheets: Enter and update music information in spreadsheets or databases. Use basic spreadsheet skills, preferably Microsoft Excel, to maintain accurate records. Track materials and help identify missing or outstanding items.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff: Work in partnership with library volunteers. Communicate with the Music & Operations Coordinator regarding music, supplies, and operational needs. Notify the Music & Operations Coordinator when supplies need to be replenished. Communicate clearly and professionally with those involved in the music library process.

Benefits

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12-month period.
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.
