About The Position

This is a part-time pool position for a Music Instructor. Duties and responsibilities are representative and not restrictive, and the District reserves the right to modify assignments based on operational needs. The candidate should be available Monday-Thursday from 7:50 am to 2:00 pm.

Requirements

• Master’s in music OR Bachelor’s in music AND Master’s in humanities OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
• The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
• Commitment to diversity.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
• Ability to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.

Nice To Haves

• A completed Masters in Music Theory or Composition.
• A doctoral degree in Music Theory or Composition (either completed or in progress).
• Experience teaching music theory beyond the basic level: ie, chromatic theory, form & analysis, counterpoint.
• Advanced piano skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, allowing the successful candidate to be an articulate spokesperson, recruiter, and partner with the music faculty.
• Experience successfully teaching Musicianship and Ear-training at the College/University Level.
• Experience teaching music theory at the lower level (fundamentals, and diatonic harmony).
• Experienced teaching musicianship (ear-training) at all levels.
• Experience designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized students.

Responsibilities
