About The Position

MISSION VIEW PUBLIC CHARTER M-F Part Time: 10 hrs/week. Highly flexible, with an optimal coverage window between 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. This position provides support to various school sites within the region, including Canyon County and Citrus locations. The role may require travel between locations to meet site-specific needs. Learn more about us at https://learn4life.org/ How You Will Make an Impact The Music Instructor (Part-Time) instructs classes for 9-12th grade students. The Music Instructor will ensure a positive, fun, supportive and creative experience for all students. The Music Instructor will be responsible for developing students’ musical abilities, preparing them for performances, and tailoring instruction to meet diverse learning styles and skill levels. This position involves collaboration with other instructional staff and school personnel and reports to the Principal or their designee.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of music theory and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of California Teaching Standards.
  • Knowledge of high school credits, graduation requirements, interventions, and alternative educational programs, including independent study.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Independent Study, Personal Learning, and Distance Learning education models.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with various learning styles from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, staff members, and community representatives in providing a rigorous educational program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear and concise instructions, using academic language, an appropriate delivery level, listening without bias, and providing proper feedback/reinforcement.
  • Ability to convey ideas in the classroom with enthusiasm and creativity.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required.
  • Holds a valid California teaching permit or credential with endorsements for the subject and level assigned.
  • English Learner Authorization required.
  • Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned is required.
  • Familiarity with digital music tools, recording, or music production software is required.
  • Knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and related Educational Systems.
  • Proficient level of skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other technology applications.
  • Ability to travel in the performance of job duties is required.
  • Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolong periods, prepare, or inspect documents and operate office equipment.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear average or typical conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communication, in person or virtual, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious, exacting work. Understand how to manage stress, high workflow management, medium project coordination, and high people engagement.
  • Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together, use hands to grasp, and manipulate small objects; twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
  • Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Prolonged period sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work in a low to moderate noise environment with frequent deadline pressures.

  • Experience directing ensembles, choirs, or bands preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction on a range of music, including music theory, reading music, finger placement and technique, chord variation and progression, scales, and tuning basics.
  • Teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and performance techniques.
  • Prepare students for recitals, concerts, competitions, or examinations.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster creativity, discipline, and a love for music in students of all ages.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Prepare materials for instruction.
  • Be on time and prepare for class to start at the designated time.
  • Provide set-up, clean-up, and any other tasks arranged in advance.
  • Collaborate with the Educational Administrators to plan classes.
  • Communicate regularly with educational staff and parents about student progress.
  • Stay current with musical trends, teaching methods, and relevant technologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, staff, and parents to support student success.
  • Participate in departmental resource and program enhancement.
  • Participate in school activities and events that facilitate student learning and achievement.
  • Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned, which may change from time to time.
