About The Position

The Music Coordinator collaborates with clergy, staff, and volunteers to plan, coordinate, and execute music for parish liturgical celebrations. This role supports the parish’s worship life through effective music ministry, including the preparation of choirs, cantors, and other musicians, in alignment with the teachings and liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church. The Music Coordinator fosters active participation of the assembly and is attentive to the cultural and spiritual needs of the parish community. Requirements

  • Practice of the Catholic faith is required. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in parish or church music ministry.
  • Training in choral conducting, keyboard (organ and/or piano), and vocal leadership.
  • Experience in liturgical music reflecting a variety of musical styles and traditions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within Church policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Ability to recruit, develop, and support volunteer music ministers and lay leaders.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal development in music and liturgical ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Pastor and parish staff to integrate music ministry within the overall parish mission and liturgical life.
  • Coordinates the parish music program, selecting and planning music in collaboration with the Pastor and Liturgy Committee for parish liturgies, including Sundays and Holy Days.
  • Collaborates with the Liturgy Committee and parish staff (e.g., Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, OCIA) to coordinate appropriate music for sacramental celebrations and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • Conducts regular choir rehearsals (e.g., youth and adult choirs) and prepares music for liturgical celebrations.
  • Recruits, develops, and supports choir members, cantors, and other music ministers.
  • Stays current with developments in liturgy and music and connects music ministers with training and formation opportunities.
  • Fosters unity among parish musicians and promotes collaboration with clergy and other liturgical ministers.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the music ministry budget.
  • Promotes effective communication and positive relationships within the parish and broader community.
  • Recruits and schedules qualified cantors, accompanists, and instrumentalists.
  • Provides music for weddings, funerals, and other liturgies as requested by the Pastor.
