About The Position

The Music Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the music program for weekly worship services and special liturgical events. This role serves as the primary liaison between the clergy and the musical ensembles, ensuring that all music aligns with the theological themes and mission of the organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree in music, Liturgy, or Sacred Music (preferred) or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a religious music setting, specifically with leadership or administrative duties.
  • High-level skill in at least one primary instrument
  • Ability to lead choral and instrumental ensembles with clear technique.
  • Familiarity with church management software and digital audio workstations (DAWs) for track preparation.
  • Ability to work with volunteers of varying skill levels with patience and encouragement.
  • Proven intermediate level of proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to inspire a team, resolve conflicts, and maintain high morale.
  • Skill in identifying program growth opportunities and long-term sustainability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
  • Confidentiality is essential.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Select hymns, anthems, and contemporary worship songs for all regular services.
  • Collaborate with the Pastor/Director of Liturgy to ensure music complements the sermon or liturgical season (e.g., Lent, Advent).
  • Coordinate music for "Special Rites" including weddings, funerals, and seasonal celebrations (Christmas/Easter).
  • Lead weekly rehearsals for cantors, choirs, praise bands, or handbell ensembles.
  • Actively scout and audition new vocalists and instrumentalists within the congregation.
  • Manage the rotation of cantors, musicians, and audio/visual volunteers using tools like Planning Center or Basecamp.
  • Organize the physical and digital music library and ensure all scores are properly filed.
  • Reporting song usage to licensing bodies (CCLI, OneLicense) to remain legally compliant.
  • Oversee the tuning of pianos/organs and the maintenance of the sound system and microphones.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
