About The Position

Columbia College Chicago hires adjunct faculty with scholarly, creative, or industry experience to teach courses part time in the School of Audio and Music. Positions are not available every semester and depend on student enrollment and funding availability. The school offers courses in Audio Arts (Recording, Live Sound, and A-V System Design); Music Performance and Songwriting; Music Production; Music Composition for Media; Music Technology (Hardware and Software Design); and Sound Design for Media and Stage. Candidates generally must hold a degree at least one level above the level at which they teach; a terminal degree in the relevant discipline is preferred. In terminal-degree programs, faculty members will hold the same level of degree. In occasional cases, demonstrated currency in a specialized discipline and a sustained record of distinguished professional work, compelling creative achievements, or other significant relevant experience may be considered instead of the required degree. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and three references. Official transcripts from the degree-granting institution or other materials may be requested later. The entry-level compensation rate for teaching one three-credit course as of Fall 2026 is $5,635, prorated for courses with fewer or more credits. The college seeks individuals who can work with students from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds and whose creative, scholarly, or professional work contributes to a rich educational experience consistent with the college’s mission. The position is subject to a background screening, is unionized, and is overtime-ineligible.
