About The Position

The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) is seeking an eligible student employee for the academic year. Total hours and duration will be based on museum budget, student availability based on class schedule, and Federal Work-Study (FWS) allocation, if applicable. This student assistant will assist with daily functions of the museum, collections work, creating and implementing educational activities, museum front desk services, and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Social Security Card
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and basic computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for students interested in learning about art, art exhibition, and art education.
  • Interest in ancient Egypt or contemporary art is encouraged.
  • Student should be innovative, hardworking, and be comfortable working with the public.
  • Some public speaking may be required depending on assigned responsibilities.
  • Ideal candidate will show interest in becoming acquainted with the basic history of the museum and all upcoming exhibitions and events to better represent the museum and its mission
  • Candidates with additional skills like graphic design and photography/videography preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and visitors to the museum at the Front Desks or events.
  • Provide accurate information and directions to the public about the campus and RAFFMA exhibits and services.
  • Assist with museum events and public programs which may include but are not limited to; set-up, tear-down, gallery monitoring, and clean-up.
  • Answer and direct phone calls as needed.
  • Organization of museum storage (physical and digital)
  • Guiding art activities and museum tours, leading tours of collections and exhibitions.
  • Act as gallery guides and monitors.
  • Familiarization with the exhibitions and museum practice and etiquette.
  • Complete all requirements to become a museum docent
  • Lead tours around the museum and around museum exhibitions when needed
  • Work with the museum’s Learning and Engagement team to create activities, worksheets, lessons, and crafts for specific exhibitions, the collection, and the museum in general.
  • Assist with the planning, organization, budgeting, set up/take down, and leading of museum events.
  • Complete all object handling requirements
  • Work with Collections team to produce condition reports, update museum database records, handle collections requests, collections inventory, collection storage and rehousing initiatives
