About The Position

The Municipal Worker 2 performs a variety of park maintenance duties. Parks maintenance workers keep up the appearance, health, and safety of landscapes and features in public parks. They maintain jogging and biking paths, hiking trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, lawns, flower beds, gardens and cemetery. Parks maintenance workers beautify the park grounds by keeping lawns green and litter-free and by planting and tending to annual flowers that change with the seasons as well as perennial trees, shrubs, and flowering plants. To keep the park safe, they maintain and make any repairs to park fixtures as needed. They do everything they can to ensure the park is attractive and usable by community members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Landscape maintenance and equipment experience
  • Skid steer landscaping and snow removal experience
  • Horticultural or Arborist experience
  • Must be able to work at heights using an aerial device safely and efficiently
  • The ability to work on a natural ice surface. (Bud Miller Lake)
  • Must be capable of operating small maintenance equipment and hand tools in an efficient, responsible manner, in accordance with recognized procedures.
  • Competency in using a chainsaw.
  • Experience in using a woodchipper
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver’s Abstract is required.
  • The ability to work on a natural ice surface. (Bud Miller Lake)
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate documentation such as, time sheets, equipment inspection sheets, hazard identification forms, and daily work records, via Smart devices/computers/cell phones
  • Understand written and verbal forms of communication as well, communicate clearly and concisely; written and verbal form
  • Must be in good physical condition, to accommodate long periods of standing and lifting up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • The successful candidate will be responsible, reliable, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Candidate will be required to complete training on the maintenance and operation of the equipment used by Equipment Operators.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Successful applicant must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Applicants with international education will be required to include an Academic Credential Assessment with application.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and competently operate and perform maintenance checks and inspections on all assigned equipment, including, skid steer and small tractors, mowers, trucks, side by sides
  • Turf and landscaping maintenance
  • Maintain landscape throughout parks and greenspace includes but not limited to Seeding, mowing, fertilizing, aeration, irrigate.
  • Ensure athletic fields are ready for games and practices.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
  • Rehabilitation of damaged turf areas.
  • Perform and assist in care for trees, shrubs and flowers in the process of replacement, removal, watering, and maintenance.
  • Inspect and repair playground equipment, picnic tables, benches, and other park amenities.
  • Keep trails and paths clear of any debris and in good condition
  • Pick up litter and remove bagged trash in park amenities and facilities
  • Assist in string light installation with the aid of a bucket truck through out park amenities and city facilities.
  • Remove snow and ice and maintain safe walking surfaces during cold months
  • Work on and maintain outdoor rinks and pond ice surfaces.
  • Keep accurate documentation such as, time sheets, equipment inspection sheets, hazard identification forms and daily work records.
  • General cleaning of worksite, equipment and park amenities
  • Perform heavy lifting and manual labour.
  • Operate equipment for the daily operations of the Parks Division
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Take an active part in the City of Lloydminster’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Operate a municipal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Complete training on operating equipment and assist the equipment operators
