About The Position

As part of AtkinsRéalis Engineering Services group, the municipal infrastructure team specializes in providing a full range engineering services for infrastructure projects to local, national, and international clients. The municipal infrastructure team is looking for a Municipal Engineer to join our growing team to work on one the most important Canadian airport projects. The position is 100% in-office in Toronto. Requirements

  • Recognized degree in civil engineering with municipal engineering concentration.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, distribution, system protection, control, capacity and future demand requirements, operations and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary and storm water management systems and environmental engineering principles for major developments including requirements unique to airports and Canadian aerodrome standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable local, provincial, and federal regulations, codes and standards as it relates to municipal infrastructure and environmental requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of underground servicing, municipal road design and water resource principles.
  • Experience with preliminary and final design of roads, bridges and municipal systems and facilities.
  • Experience developing and reviewing servicing, grading and drainage designs and performing field inspections related to municipal works and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in use of MicroStation/BIM/AutoCAD, Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer 3D modelling programs.
  • Knowledge to apply the principles of asset management for municipal infrastructure.
  • Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advice, guidance and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to municipal infrastructure design and construction including compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
  • Ensures that Municipal design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
  • Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed upgrades, alterations, maintenance work and new construction to ensure adherence to applicable regulations, codes, standards and requirements including assessment if proposed methodology, criteria and designs are reasonable.
  • Providing non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction.
  • Oversees servicing including water, sanitary sewer, storm water, gas, roads, bridges, underground lift stations and parking garages and providing expert advice on capacity, demand and reliability of existing systems.
  • Assesses alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provides feedback as to the feasibility of the proposal and alignment to requirements.
  • Coordinates the technical elements of the program with respect to municipal infrastructure engineering including establishing targets / goals for the program.
  • Coordinates the interface between other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities, and assets.
  • Reviews deliverables submitted by the contractor / designer and confirms compliance to the relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
  • Monitors the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch list, etc.
  • Provides Management level progress reports and briefings with respect to structural design progress, issues, and opportunities.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of project staff.
