About The Position

The Kenosha Municipal Court Office is seeking a seasonal Clerical Intern to provide general office support. Under the general direction of the Municipal Judge and Chief Clerk, this position involves a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. The role requires significant public interaction, necessitating professional communication skills, superior customer service, confidentiality, independent judgment, initiative, decision-making, prioritization, and multi-tasking abilities. This recruitment is open to all qualified individuals and may establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies within the next 12 months. This position is non-represented.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of modern office terminology, methods, practices and procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of office equipment.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate court records and minutes.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, judges, attorneys, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially while also utilizing mature judgment and confidentiality.
  • Ability to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret and apply established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop, install and communicate clerical procedures from general instructions.
  • Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers and visitors at the counter, provides information and direction, receipts payments, sets up payment plans, accepts and files documents received from parties and answers phone calls.
  • Balances the daily cash drawer and processes the department’s daily deposits.
  • Prepares files for court hearings, records outcomes of hearings and issues subsequent notices to all parties, transmits information to relevant third parties, and returns files upon completion.
  • Receives and responds to open records requests.
  • Processes incoming mail.
  • Assists with filing citations and paperwork.
  • Attends various court hearings and trials when needed.
  • Performs any other work related duties assigned by the Municipal Court Judge or the Chief Clerk for the betterment of the court.
