The Engineering Department designs and constructs community-oriented infrastructure for the City of New Haven. This work includes public outreach, project concept development, engineering design, mapping, construction management, infrastructure inspection, and asset management. Public infrastructure under the department's purview includes bridges, roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, coastal protection, street lighting capital upgrades, and public facilities. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer early in their career to gain valuable experience in the field of Civil Engineering. This is professional and technical work in the field of Civil Engineering in a municipal environment. The work consists of performing a variety of engineering and technical tasks to produce supporting designs and provide inspection services on projects that are developed within the Engineering Department or as assigned. This individual will be involved with all aspects of the city’s infrastructure including; Storm Water Facilities, Sidewalks, Roads, Bridges, Buildings, and Environmental Permitting and Flood Control. Work will be assigned by the City Engineer or other Senior Engineers. Work will be generally supervised and evaluated as it supports the infrastructure goals of the city. Hybrid remote work options for some aspects of the work may be available once work routine are established.
