About The Position

The Multimedia Specialist supports the Travis County Emergency Services District No. 6's ("District") mission by creating high-quality visual content that enhances public communication, community engagement, and firefighter training. This position produces photo, video, and graphic design materials for social media, public education campaigns, recruitment, internal communication, and training programs. A primary focus of this role is to capture, edit, and produce professional-grade videos and photos during real-world training evolutions, emergency preparedness drills, fire ground simulations, and community events to support both public-facing storytelling and instructional content for the District’s Training Division. The position requires work during evenings, early mornings, weekends and during emergency incidents. Applicants must submit a portfolio containing photo, video, and graphic design samples.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Production, Videography, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience with photography, videography, and editing
  • Knowledge of modern DSLR/mirrorless camera systems (Canon, Nikon, Sony) and professional video/audio gear
  • Experience with video editing and photo editing software (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, After Effects, and Canva)
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Ability to capture compelling photo and video content in fast-paced, unpredictable environments.
  • Proficiency in photo/video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and related tools.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, best practices, trends, and analytics.
  • Strong software graphic design skills.
  • Ability to storyboard and plan video content.
  • Strong attention to detail, composition, lighting, and audio quality.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines.
  • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work safely around emergency scenes, training grounds, and fire apparatus.

Responsibilities

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos of training activities, apparatus, emergency preparedness drills, public education events, community programs and District events.
  • Capture and produce short-form video and photo content for social media, including vertical reels, quick-turnaround event highlights, and behind-the-scenes content.
  • Produce videos for the District, including multi-camera coverage, audio capture, lighting, interviews, and post-production editing.
  • Edit raw footage into polished videos, including training modules, safety PSAs, event recaps, recruitment videos, social media shorts/reels, and longer-form features.
  • Ensure media is accurate, safe, and aligned with District objectives.
  • Create accessible content through captioning and formatting appropriate for web and social media publishing.
  • Assist in planning, producing, and scheduling content across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Develop graphics and support visual design needs for social media campaigns, including safety messaging, event promotions, and personnel features.
  • Serve as backup support for engagement monitoring, message responses, and social media coverage during major incidents and community events.
  • Maintain District brand standards across all internal and external visual materials.
  • Work with others to create or assist with the production of content, including step-by-step training videos, scenario documentation, and visual aids for internal and public use.
  • Provide back-up support for media monitoring and responding to public inquiries when needed.
  • Attend District events, emergency responses (as authorized), weather events, and community programs to capture media, support information needs, including support of live training events.
  • Operate, maintain, and organize a variety of audio-visual equipment, including video cameras, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, microphones, lights, drones, and editing systems.
  • Proactively recommend improvements to digital tools, production workflows, and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
