Overview College of Arts & Sciences ( ArtSci ), Caine School of the Arts (CSA) - Production Services Department seeks a highly motivated and skilled professional to serve as a Multimedia Operations Specialist , specializing in theatrical lighting . Supervised by the Director of Multimedia Operations and working with student workers, the Multimedia Operations Specialist assists with all work done in assigned venues on and off campus and exhibition spaces ; working closely with Art & Design, Music, Theatre Arts departments and supports all event users working with Production Services . Responsibilities Production Responsibilities (75%) Create, implement, and coordinate production plans for events supported by Production Services. Independently lead and be responsible for the total technical operations of assigned events. Coordinates lighting and production planning with visiting professional and student production companies. Designs, adapts or implements lighting plans for all stage productions. Supervises the hanging and focus of stage lights and operation of lighting control consoles. Work closely with the Front of House and Box Office staff to ensure a consistent customer experience and smooth operations in all assigned venues. Responds to lighting and electrical problems occurring during productions. Supervise and participate in the load-in, installation, and maintenance of each show as assigned, ensuring the crew’s safety and the construction’s accuracy. Assists in training and supervising student work crews in the performance of lighting and general stage production duties. Assists in general stage management duties, supervision of load-in, set-up, dismantling, and load-out of touring productions and securing of the performance area/venue before and after production. Assists with advancing all events. Assists with technical projection, audio and camera/video needs. General Responsibilities (25%) Creates and maintains all lighting records including but not limited to detailing current lighting positions, circuit, focus, purpose and rentals. Manages and maintains all lighting inventories. Assists in tracking expenses for events from pre-production through post production. Assist with tracking all technical equipment inventory. Repairs and provides preventative maintenance for all stage lighting and related electrical equipment Assist in the maintenance of all technical equipment, tools, and supplies. Makes recommendations on major repair of lighting and on new equipment acquisitions. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications The position will be hired at either the Multimedia Specialist I or II based on the following: Multimedia Specialist I: Bachelor's Degree in media technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Multimedia Specialist II: Bachelor's Degree in media technology or related field plus two years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience with two of the years’ experience being live production experience. Experience as a Master Electrician, Head Theatrical Electrician, Lead Theatrical Electrician or equivalent. Relevant experience supporting lighting and/or A/V operations, theatre productions, concerts, or art exhibitions, including knowledge of best practices in the field to support such activities. Experience and expertise with ETC lighting consoles; EOS and ION. Experience with intelligent lighting systems, DMX and lighting networks. Experience working with students. Experience working with Microsoft Office software and tools, including Excel, Word, Box and Teams. Valid driver’s license to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in technical theater, lighting design, technical direction or related field plus two years of professional theatrical or production lighting experience OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience with two of the years’ experience being in live production. Documented relevant safety training. Teaching experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and experience using lighting consoles, digital audio mixers, video related equipment, and software. Knowledge and experience using hand and power tools, working with basic electrical wiring and associated safety practices. Knowledge of lighting design and principals. Knowledge of architectural lighting design and principals. Knowledge of theatrical rigging and fly systems. Ability and willingness to work at heights and on ladders. Ability and willingness to lift, push and pull heavy road cases and be an active participant in all aspects of load in/out. Ability to work as part of a highly motivated team in a fast-paced environment, to analyze situations, and to respond appropriately with minimal supervision. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with constituents such as faculty, students, staff, and external clients.
