About The Position

At KPAX, we believe local journalism has the power to inform, connect, and strengthen communities. As a Multimedia Journalist, you'll play a key role in telling the stories that matter most to viewers across western Montana. From breaking news and community events to impactful enterprise reporting, you'll research, shoot, write, edit, and deliver compelling content across multiple platforms. You'll have the opportunity to build trusted relationships, uncover meaningful stories, and help audiences stay informed wherever they consume news. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant journalism, reporting, or multimedia storytelling experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to provide proof of insurance meeting company requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills with a commitment to accuracy and storytelling excellence.
  • Experience with videography and non-linear video editing platforms.
  • Knowledge of professional broadcast camera equipment and field production techniques.
  • Proficiency editing video using Final Cut Pro or comparable editing systems.
  • Comfortable posting and managing content across websites and digital platforms.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with newsroom computer systems.
  • Excellent news judgment, time management, and organizational abilities.
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Confidence working under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed in support of field reporting and production activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop story ideas by evaluating news leads, tips, community trends, and daily assignments.
  • Research, gather, and verify information through interviews, observation, and independent reporting.
  • Write clear, accurate, and engaging stories aligned with broadcast and digital editorial standards.
  • Capture high-quality video and still photography to support news coverage.
  • Edit video content for television broadcasts, digital platforms, and social media channels.
  • Deliver live reports from the field and provide real-time coverage of breaking news and community events.
  • Appear on-air for story narration, interviews, and newscast presentations.
  • Collaborate with photographers, producers, and newsroom colleagues to create impactful content.
  • Support newscast preparation by contributing story elements, updates, and editorial input.
  • Work closely with digital and online teams to enhance multimedia storytelling across platforms.
