About The Position

WPGA in Macon is seeking a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) who can find, shoot, write, edit, and report compelling local stories across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. Requirements

  • 1+ years of on-air reporting/MMJ experience (or strong internship/college-level equivalent with a professional reel).
  • Ability to shoot and edit video independently and efficiently under a deadline.
  • Strong writing, interviewing, and editorial judgment with a commitment to accuracy and fairness.
  • Comfortable doing live shots and adapting quickly during breaking news.
  • Working knowledge of digital publishing and social platforms to distribute and promote stories.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to stories throughout the WPGA viewing area; ability to lift/carry typical field gear.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as the newsroom's needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reporting in a fast-paced local TV newsroom.
  • Proficiency with common newsroom tools (e.g., ENPS) and non-linear editing systems.
  • Strong enterprise storytelling skills (public records, investigative mindset, longer-form features).

Responsibilities

  • Work out of the WPGA newsroom in Macon; report to WANF leadership
  • Pitch, develop, and produce enterprise and day-of news stories that reflect the Macon community and surrounding areas.
  • Research, interview, and verify information to ensure accurate, fair, and timely reporting.
  • Shoot and edit your own video; write and track scripts; deliver live and/or recorded reports for newscasts.
  • Produce content for multiple platforms, including broadcast, station streaming, and digital/social channels, with a focus on strong visuals and clear storytelling.
  • Coordinate with producers, assignment desk, and newsroom leaders based in the WANF (Atlanta) newsroom to execute daily coverage plans and special projects.
  • Develop and maintain a network of local sources; cultivate community relationships to generate story ideas.
  • Cover breaking news, severe weather, and major events, including live shots and rapid updates as needed.
  • Maintain equipment and organize/label video and content according to newsroom workflows.
  • Represent WPGA professionally in the field and on social platforms; uphold station policies and journalistic ethics.
  • Work flexible hours, including mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage as assigned.
