About The Position

The Learning Community, a vibrant public charter school that centers the voices of students, families, and teachers seeks a collaborative, dedicated, certified Multilingual Learner Teacher passionate about supporting students to grow academically and socio-emotionally. Requirements

  • Certified or in the process of certification in the state of Rhode Island for their certification in ELL/MLL
  • Must be U.S. citizens or residents or have work visas.
  • Demonstrates reflective practices and a willingness to improve their own performance.
  • Understands the role of formative & summative assessment data in planning for tiered instruction for all students.
  • Maintains high expectations & positive regard for all students and staff.
  • Collaborates with team members to create and maintain inclusive, supportive, and responsive learning environments.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and/or willingness to learn about and act on social issues that affect students (race, class, ability status, etc.).
  • Strong teaching abilities, our teachers create safe, engaging, and rigorous learning environments.
  • Skilled in communicating with students and tailoring their teaching approach to the needs of their learners.
  • Able to be a warm demander: to build deep and trusting relationships with students, while creating accountability for how they show up and take ownership of their own learning.
  • Deep knowledge of the subject matter you’ll be teaching. Our teachers understand the content they are teaching and push themselves to stay current in their content area in order to raise the bar for their teaching and our students.
  • Being a reliable, collaborative, and consistently strong colleague. Our teaching teams work closely together, have planning time weekly and build on each other’s insights and strengths with students to meet their goals.
  • Committed to healthy communication with others, working through conflict, supporting their team, and asking for the support they need.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and resilience. Our teachers bring creativity, problem-solving and an adaptable approach to most challenges, while keeping student safety and respect for our students, parents, and school community front and center in their choices.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and communication skills - especially in conflict or for trickier decisions.

  • Experience working with ELL/MLL population preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to & collaborates with Deputy Head of School and Multilingual Learner (MLL) Coordinator
  • Works with a collaborative team of reading and ELL/MLL teachers
  • Create and/or contribute to Personalized Literacy Plans aligned to school, teacher, and student needs.
  • Providing consultation to general and/or special education team members regarding student needs and best practices.
  • Provide direct literacy and language intervention support to individuals and small groups.
  • Ensure effective and aligned implementation of curricula and research and monitor to ensure that high-quality curricular products are put in front of students.
  • Review data as a means of informing planning and supporting teachers to make informed decisions to drive student achievement.
  • Actively monitor student progress and makes instructional decisions based on student achievement data.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student progress connected to learning goals.
  • Remaining current with appropriate instructional theory, practice, and research. Engaging in regular and strategic professional development to stay current in best practices for diverse learners.
