About The Position

The Canton Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Long Term Substitute - Multilingual Learner Teacher at the Galvin Middle School. The ML Teacher will join a vibrant and supportive team that places a high priority on collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff. This position is a 3 day a week, 0.6 long term substitute position from August 31, 2026-end of November 2026. Requirements

  • Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification ESL 6-12 license.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • SEI Endorsement
  • Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Develop lesson plans that align with state and WIDA standards
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Prepare the classroom for class activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
  • Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
