About The Position

DHI Communities, a multifamily development division of D.R. Horton, Inc., is seeking a Multifamily-Field Engineer. This role will assist the Project Manager and Superintendent(s) in managing subcontractors and suppliers on a project site, adhering to D.R. Horton’s and DHI Communities’ policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will maintain a professional demeanor that enhances the image of the company.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training
  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license
  • Good working knowledge of construction management theory and practice
  • PC proficient with knowledge of construction business software (scheduling, estimating, spreadsheets, word processing)
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email

Responsibilities

  • Review construction documents to identify potential problems and conflicts.
  • Update and monitor construction documents with changes and addenda.
  • Inspect the site for usage practices, unauthorized personnel, product deficiencies, or improper construction methods, and report unsafe work practices.
  • Inspect foundations before concrete placement, verifying dimensions, beam bottoms, cable chairs, cable clearance, and coverage.
  • Ensure subcontractors submit accurate daily reports and weekly safety meeting minutes.
  • Record work progress on daily reports, including subcontractor reports and observations.
  • Develop, organize, and track office documents as directed by the Project Manager and Superintendent.
  • Assist in creating, distributing, and managing punch lists for rough trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, phone, TV, fire, and framing).
  • Inspect rough trade work before city official inspections.
  • Check material deliveries for quality and count.
  • Maintain a delivery log.
  • Inspect trusses for broken members and proper bracing, ordering repairs from the manufacturer before structural engineer inspection.
  • Conduct truss inspections with the structural engineer.
  • Comply with company safety policies.
  • Directly manage two or more employees in the Land Department, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding/disciplining, and resolving problems.
