About The Position

The Multi-Modality Imaging Technologist is responsible for producing diagnostic Imaging studies across various Imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, and Diagnostic Radiography. This role requires a versatile individual who can float between modalities throughout a workday and demonstrate expert skills in either MRI or CT. The technologist will also be responsible for maintaining the safety of the MRI suite, promoting radiation safety, evaluating examination orders, following departmental protocols, and recognizing and acting on emergent patient conditions. Additionally, the role involves assisting in patient transportation, familiarity with sterile fields, proficient venipuncture skills, preparing and administering contrast materials, coordinating patient transport, and collaborating with other departments. The technologist will also assess patient condition, preserve patient safety, provide instruction to patients and families, maintain confidentiality, ensure organized storage of supplies and equipment, use equipment safely, maintain a clean and safe environment, and process information using hospital informatics systems like RIS and PACS. They will also be responsible for accurate documentation, charge capture, and transcribing physician orders. Quality improvement and safety are also key aspects, including reporting hazards, assisting with quality improvement indicators, and initiating occurrence reports.

Requirements

  • ARRT required
  • State registration required
  • Advanced certification and at least 2-3 years in CT or MRI
  • BLS Certified
  • Possess a level of clinical expertise and competency in cross sectional anatomy
  • Must have the ability to handle critical care situations

Responsibilities

  • Produce diagnostic Imaging studies across various Imaging modalities (CT, MRI, Diagnostic Radiography).
  • Float between modalities throughout a workday.
  • Demonstrate expert skills in MRI or CT.
  • Maintain the safety of the MRI suite in conjunction with patients and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Promote radiation safety by using the ALARA concept.
  • Evaluate examination orders for pertinent clinical information and assess patient needs and exam requirements.
  • Follow procedure protocols and policies established by the department.
  • Work with Radiologist and other employees on the improvement of protocols as needed.
  • Be able to be onsite within 30 minutes when on call.
  • Recognize emergent patient conditions and act on them accordingly.
  • Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the Imaging Department.
  • Be familiar with sterile fields.
  • Have proficient venipuncture skills and be able to prepare and administer contrast materials.
  • Coordinate critical patient transport with appropriate nursing personnel as applicable.
  • Collaborate with Patient Services and anesthesia as needed.
  • Assess patient condition; preserve patient safety through proper use of immobilization devices.
  • Provide a positive environment for employees to seek their highest potential.
  • Provide appropriate information and instruction to patients and family.
  • Identify anatomical orientation, sequencing of images and verify accurate patient identification of images for accurate record retention and archiving.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and facility related information.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrate correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff according to facility Policies.
  • Experience in the use of Hospital Informatics Systems such as RIS and PACS.
  • Use computer systems in documenting, correctly and accurately, patient information.
  • Verify accurate charge capture for procedures performed.
  • Accurately transcribe physician orders and facilitate correcting mistakes or unclear orders with appropriate people.
  • Report all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or other facility employees.
  • Assist in identifying appropriate indicators for the department’s Quality Improvement programs.
  • Initiate occurrence reports when problems are identified.
