About The Position

Clorox is seeking a qualified candidate for a Mechanical Technician position at their Atlanta West facility. This role involves following plant safety rules, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults, performing preventative maintenance (PMs), ensuring stock of critical spares, and executing work orders. The facility manufactures and distributes disinfecting wipes using automated packaging equipment and utilities. Successful candidates will possess a strong understanding of various technical areas and the ability to troubleshoot systems with minimal supervision to ensure reliable manufacturing.

Requirements

• Industrial maintenance work experience of at least 5 years.
• Proficiency in maintaining, troubleshooting, analyzing, and repairing mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, power transmission, electrical, and control systems.
• Thorough knowledge of VFDs, PLCs, and servo motors.
• Ability to repair defective machinery using drawings, manuals, and sample parts.
• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rigging equipment, man-lifts, and shop equipment (e.g., mills, lathes, band saws, presses).
• Understanding of shaft alignment techniques and tools.
• Ability to maintain mechanical drive systems, lubrication, and various pump types.
• Pipe fitting skills.
• Electrical Skills.
• Knowledge of variable frequency drive operations and motor control circuits.
• Proficiency in following ladder logic for troubleshooting and reading/updating P&IDs.
• Ability to respond appropriately to stakeholders at all levels.
• Integrity in dealing with people during equipment breakdowns.
• Self-Motivation and Work Ethic- proven self-motivated work behavior requiring limited supervision.
• Strong dedication to plant non-negotiable and company policies.

• RSlogix Studio 5000 Experience (Required).
• Experience connecting a PLC to a computer using RSlinx.
• Experience creating Tags and I/O.
• Experience Programming a Ladder Routine (such as Bits, Timers, and counters).
• Basic electrical troubleshooting experience.
• Capable of wiring up a 3-phase motor.
• Understanding of ControlLogix or CompactLogix.

Nice To Haves

• Successful completion of a two (2) year college curriculum in technical areas AND/OR vocational school certificates of completion of training in electrical or mechanical technical areas.
• Other vendor courses in machining, electricity, or welding.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems such as SAP.
• Experience or familiarity with servo motion control systems.

Responsibilities

• Follow all Clorox Plant safety rules.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults.
• Perform PMs (Preventative Maintenance).
• Ensure stock of critical spares.
• Execute work orders.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, analyze, and repair equipment to prevent, resolve, and eliminate various process failures and equipment breakdowns (mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, power transmission, electrical, controls, etc.).
• Troubleshoot motor and motor control problems, including VFDs, PLCs, and servo motors.
• Learn and perform mechanical work as needed.
• Clean work area after each job and maintain the workstation.
• Utilize computer software (SAP, Microsoft Suite, Internet, Process Book, FactoryTalk, etc.) for tasks such as creating/editing work orders, looking up parts, researching equipment, email, tracking time, and troubleshooting equipment.
• Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to respond appropriately to stakeholders of all levels.

• Utilize fabrication and assembly skills to repair defective machinery using drawings, manuals, and/or sample parts.
• Identify and install bearings, seals, belts, chains, and other parts/components of automated packaging equipment.
• Deal professionally with people during times of equipment breakdown.
• Demonstrate knowledge of equipment nomenclature, spare parts identification, and their location.
• Understand and evaluate the operation of equipment; detect or anticipate malfunctions.
• Demonstrate pride in workmanship, neatness of work, and personal dress.
• Fulfill obligations of job assignments and report to work in a dependable manner.
• Report into the department when unable to come to work in sufficient time to cover his/her shift.
• Perform tasks using various shop equipment: turn down a shaft using a lathe, cut a keyway in a shaft using a milling machine, broach a sprocket, cut metal using a torch, basic stick welding, threading pipe with a hand and powered pipe threader.
• Demonstrate a basic working knowledge of DC and AC circuits and the ability to read schematics.
• Replace or adjust electrical devices: photo eyes, relays, motor starters, disconnects, motors.
• Locate I/O’s on PLC from schematics.
• Use a multi-meter.
• Demonstrate knowledge of variable frequency drive operations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of motor control circuits.
• Demonstrate an understanding of electrical device functionality.
• Properly terminate wiring.
• Perform address and rung searches.
• Follow ladder logic for troubleshooting.
• Read and update P&ID’s.
• Experience connecting a PLC to a computer using RSlinx.
• Experience creating Tags and I/O.
