About The Position

This position supports the missionaries’ role of inviting others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel. The Language Tutor provides individualized language tutoring to a variety of audiences, including young missionaries, senior missionaries, church leaders, Mission Presidents, General Authorities and their wives, and others as assigned. Training may be conducted in person or by video conference. The role is an individual-contributor position in the Training Department and may include other temporary MTC duties or MTC Teacher responsibilities as hours allow.

Requirements

• One year of related experience.
• Fluency in the specified foreign language.
• Excellent tutoring and teaching skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, prioritizing, and leadership skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of “Preach My Gospel.”
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and the specified second language, both in person and via video conferencing.
• Self-motivated.
• Able to work well with people.
• May need to meet physical requirements such as sitting for long periods and using monitors or equipment.
• Only members of the Church who are worthy of a temple recommend qualify for employment.

Responsibilities

• Provide language tutoring to missionaries, Mission Presidents, General Authorities and their wives, and others as directed.
• Design lessons and learning experiences to help individual missionaries progress toward their personal language goals.
• Work to improve tutoring skills.
• Prepare daily to meet individual needs.
• Set a good example as an MTC employee in any venue.
• May assist in assessing missionaries’ and teacher applicants’ proficiency in the target language.
• May take on responsibilities as an MTC Teacher, as hours allow.
• May perform other temporary assigned duties at the MTC, such as assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar.
