About The Position

MHY Family Services is launching a new Multisystemic (MST) Adaptation Program in Butler County, PA, and is seeking a passionate Crisis Counselor to join their team. MHY Family Services is an established non-profit organization with over 140 years of history, providing support and services through residential, educational, and community-based programming across Pennsylvania, primarily in Western PA. The organization focuses on meeting the evolving needs of at-risk youth and their families through a practical and holistic treatment approach, equipping them with skills to manage trauma-based issues and reintegrate into their homes, schools, and communities. The MST Psych Crisis Counselor will serve youth aged 9-18 and their families within the MST Psychiatric model, offering in-home counseling and case management to those involved in the juvenile justice system to prevent out-of-home placement. This role requires close collaboration with therapists, treatment team members, courts, judges, schools, probation, children and youth services, hospitals, and other providers to achieve evidence-based outcomes aligned with MHY's goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Childhood Education or related area required.
  • Minimum of one year prior experience working with families in community settings.
  • Current PA state driver’s license with an insurable driving record required.
  • Must possess demonstrated PC skills including common MS Office applications.
  • Additional training or licensing as required by regulations, or as deemed necessary by the Executive Director or Director.

  • Experience within the child protection or court systems strongly preferred.
  • Participation in interventions including community support systems and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serves youth between the ages of 9-18 and their families with treatment and resources as set forth in the MST Psychiatric model.
  • Affords in-home counseling and case management to youth and families involved in the juvenile justice system with the goals of preventing out of home placement.
  • Collaborates closely with Therapists and other treatment team members.
  • Works closely with the courts, judges, schools, probation, children and youth services, hospitals and other providers in collaboration with evidence-based outcomes; all in alignment with MHY goals and strategies.
  • Assists Therapists in proactively collecting information and resources in anticipation of clients’ needs.
  • Engages primary caregivers and other key participants in active, change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to participation.
  • Assists Therapists in the problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review and strategy revision procedures using the MST Analytic Process.
  • Maintains timely, clear and concise documentation of treatment that supports peer and supervisory review and feedback, and in compliance with MST processes.
  • Performs safety checks at the direction of the Supervisor or Therapist, responds to emergencies, and implements crisis plans as necessary.
  • Obtains drug screens and/or breathalyzers for parents or youth who are abusing substances.
  • Participates in MST-Psychiatric training, supervision and consultation activities as required.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with community stakeholders (i.e., child protection services, Guardians ad Litem, judges, schools, etc.) to support cooperation among service providers.
  • Assists clients in practical needs such as housing, budgeting, job attainment, and prosocial recreational activities.
  • Assists the clinical team and parents with children’s school adjustments.
  • Develops and maintains a resource book for the team of activities and services available in the community that support clinical interventions.
  • Assists in MST TAM-R data collection by connecting families with the interviewer.
  • Collaborate as needed with Therapists and other team members to support them in their work with families.
  • Assists the team in on-call rotation (if qualified to do so).
